Color Club Halo Hues 2013

Hi guys!

I'm super excited to share this post with you. Its Color Clubs Halo Hues 2013, I found the whole display at Winners, and you bet your bottom dollar I grabbed each one of these babies! I never saw the first Halo Hue collection there, but after looking at on-line swatches I think I would rather the 2013 anyways.

Halo Hues 2013:
L-R: (Top) Cosmic Fate, Miss Bliss, Kismet, (Bottom) Eternal Beauty, Over The Moon, Beyond

Cosmic Fate:
A soft neutral orange that leans pink when on. A very flattering shade.

Miss Bliss:
A bight magenta that pulls purple in some lights. All I think of, is this might be something an eighties Barbie would wear...  In other words, it`s pretty darn awesome! Strong holo in this one.

Kismet:
A silvery pale green with a good amount of holo. I do not see my-self reaching for this one often.

Eternal Beauty:
A hot purple! I've already worn this as a full manicure.I love the shade, I love its holo, I love looking at it close up . I didn't like how it looked on my hands at a distance, It looked like a bad purplely frost (which just no!). I'm not sure where I stand with this shade now, love it? hate it? Just kidding, I still love it!

Over The Moon:
Over The Moon has a very strong holo finish, but the colour of my lighting/light box pulls a bit blue, so in my pictures the holo got a bit washed out. Trust when I say it was one of the more intense holos of this collection. It's also a lovely aquamarine blue.

Beyond:

I LOVE black holos, this one a nice and dark. I have to compare it to Hits Zeus soon, but Beyond seems darker and less silvery. Formula also seemed better, if my memory serves me correctly, but I'll have to compare side by side to know for sure. Reminds me a certain private jet.

First of all I have to say I love how these are all so bight and holographic. I'm so used to seeing holos that are heavy on the silver, that its refreshing to see some beautiful brights. The holo was strong, mainly linear, with some scattered properties to the finish. These shades had a metallic feel to them (as many holo nail polishes seem too)

Formula on all of these were basically the same, lovely 2 coaters. They were surprisingly well behaved as far a holo polish goes.  I did not use Aqua Base for these, but instead used Revlon Nail Brightener, which I noticed has similar consistency. It worked great, I will need to try it under a more difficult holo nail polish to see if it really is a cheaper alternative to Aqua Base.

Are you guys as excited as I am about the once hard-to-find holographic finish popping up in places like Winners, and tons of nail polish e-tailers? We have such a selection to choose from now! and my wallet cries a little bawls like a baby every time I see a new assortment of holo nail polish go up for sale (I might as well just say straight up nail polish).

I made this meme for you:

Bye!

Cult Nails Swatches

Hi everyone!

By the sounds of it most people had a crappy first day of spring, so I hope the fact that its Friday cheers you up! Today I have my most recent Cult Nails polishes to show you guys. I got these when Katy from Life & Polish put in a group order and got free shipping (ages ago!) a few weeks ago we finally were able to make time to meet up quickly on my lunch break, and do a *little* bit of polish shopping at the mall. (Katy! We still need to go shopping shopping!)

Anyways, there were the shades I got:
CN: Flushed, Princess, Discipline
Cult Nails Flushed:

This is 3 coats of pure beautiful purple goodness. It has vibrant hot pink shimmer! Flushed just sky-rocketed to top 5 purples for sure! I love this shade SO much. First coat went on streaky, 2 evened it out but caused some balding, 3rd coat made it perfect! I cannot stress enough that you need Flushed in your life.

Cult Nails Princess:

Another beauty! Princess is a polish that I strangely have been putting off buying FOREVER! I have no idea why! I love all  light  blue nail polish. Princess is extra special due to the pink shimmer in the base. Its hard to see in my pictures, I tried to turn up the vibrancy to show it off without making my hands look freakish. Here's a way better swatch. Again 3 coats, a little balding on the 2nd coat, but the 3rd covered it nicely.

Cult Nails Discipline:

This is 3 coats, I wasn't crazy about how sheer this polish was. Its also dried a bit bumpy. With that out of the way, I like the strong blue and pink shimmer in Discipline. This colour has a bit of a modern "grown up" feel to it, if I need a office safe polish I will definitely reach for this one. I am very curious to see this polish layered over a black/dark grey.

What do you guys think of Cult Nails? I basically love them! My favourite polish by them is Nevermore, a wonderful black creme polish. Flushed may now be my second favourite Cult, its so amazing. The whole brand is really good, and you can check them out HERE. They have sales fairly often, so you may want to follow them on Twitter/Facebook/Instagram ect.

Thanks to Katy who hoarded these for like ever! Honestly! lol :D

Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!

Tribal Nails

Hi guys,

Today I have another look that is WAAYYY out of my regular nail art go-to-style. If you follow me on Pinterest you may know I have a slight affinity towards tribal style manis (and other tribal/geometric accessories!). This is my very first attempt at tribal nails, and it was Lucy's stunning design & tutorial in this post that finally pushed me to try it.
I used Sparitual Ebb And Flow (bight blue/turquoise) as my base, Sparitual Love and Happiness (red), and Sparitual Dreams Becoming Reality (which is a dark teal, but turned purple over the red). I used all Sparitual polishes as another little shout out Lucy, whose awesome swatches of the brand are guilty of enabling & encouraging me to try them out!

The black out-line was done with a black stripping polish.

I will try these again, hopefully when I have longer nails, so I have more room to work.

Thanks to Lucy for her great Tutorial! (psst go follow her blog if you're not already!)

Have a great day everyone! Thanks for stopping by.

Two New Revlon Treatments

Hi Guys,

After a busy blogging week, for me, last week I wanted to take things down a notch, and share something that I picked up 2 Sundays ago, and honestly cannot get enough of. I got the Revlon Cuticle Softener and Nail Brightener with a 3 dollar off coupon at the Superstore.

Cuticle Softener:
The product is a thin blue gel with micro beads floating inside. You paint it along the cuticle and rub it in. Its not as good as, say, Lush Lemony Flutter, but I still noticed a difference while using it.

Smells strongly like roses, and I can pick up a little synthetic -ness to it, but it doesn't bother me at all, I love the scent.

Nail Brightener:

Ok so this is my new favourite product, I use it every day. Its a very sheer white, with extrememly fine blue irridences in it. This stuff makes my nails look 10000 times better. The formula is thick, easy to apply and leaves very little streaks. It dries shiny and hard. It works as a base coat at 1 coat or as a polish at 2-3 coats. Its noticable even after one layer on your nail. It definaly brightens.
2 coats
The next time you're somewhere Revlon is sold, I encourage you to take a look at their Nail Brightener and Cuticle Softner.

Have a great day!

St.Patty's Day Green Water Marble (Mani #3)

Hi guys!

Yep! You read the title correctly, I said water marble! One of the most time, energy and product consuming techniques I know of. Of course I did all green to reflect the St.Pats season.

I used OPI Jade Is The New Black, China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint, Essie Mojito Madness, and OPI Did It On Em'.

I think its fairly obvious that I do not water marble, like, ever.

I made a few mis-steps, but I am hoping to get better!!!

To figure out how to water marble I just youtubed some tutorials. I don't have a recommendation bc I watched so many helpful ones. I also watched them a while ago (like months ago) and just kinda jumped in the last few days.

If you're scared to try water marbling ( I know I was for the longest time!) try this tutorial for dry marbling by More Nail Polish.

I also wanted to let you all know my friend Maria is having a give-away with her amazing little micro-paintings. If you haven't seen them yet go check them/her out!!

Thanks for stopping by.

Have a great St.Patricks Day!

St.Pattys Mani #2 With Cult Nails Feelin' Froggy

Hi Guys!

Happy Friday!! Are you going out to celebrate this weekend? Not me! I'm taking the opportunity to get some much needed rest.

Today is my 2nd St.Patrick's Day mani. I decided to go with the beautiful Cult Nails Feelin' Froggy. I haven't reached for this one since the summer time. If there is ever such thing a beautiful, mature green, feelin' froggy is definitely it.
One of my favourite greens.
I decided to add a bit of gold stamping & rhinestones:
I used MASH Plate 47 And Essie Good As Gold, I added some gems I had to the center to finish the look.

And that was my second St.Patty Days look. I'll have another one tomorrow... and its a doozy!

Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend!!

St. Patty days mani #1: Shamrocks

Hello,

Today I have my first of 2 (possibly 3 if I have time to squeeze one in) St. Patricks day manis. Last year I didn't do any, and my number one blog follower *coughmymomcough* pointed it out, asking me where it was. I had to shamefully admit I didn't do one! I have since not let a holiday sneak by without at least one commemorative nail art on my blog.

Shamrocks:

To create this look I used OPI My Vampire is Buff (swatch HERE), stamped with Konad White & MASH plate39, then stamped again with Konad Green & MASH plate 30.

I wanted to give this St.pattys Day inspired mani a neutral twist, and use green as the accent for a change.

OPI MVIB look great as a base for the white stamping, I wish I had taken a picture without the green added.

So thats is for mani #1! What do you think, did the green shamrock on neural get the message across? Or should I have gone for the traditional all green?

Have you done you nails for St.Pattys? Feel free to leave your link if you have (or shoot me an email) I'd love to check them out!

Have a great day!

KKCenterHK Triangle Studs Review

Hi!

How is everyone today? I you're having a good day so far!

Have you seen nail studs yet? If you been around the nail polish blogospere for a bit you will know studs are really trendy right now. I personally love the edgy, rock and roll look of them. Today I'm super happy to share with you a product review I had the privilege to do for KKCenterHK Triangle studs.

To create this look I used Cult Nails Nevermore, OPI Kiss me on my Tulips and stamped with MASH Plate 45 and Konad Special Stamping Polish in Black.

I can totally see my-self reaching for these for a night out! They look so good over black nail polish!

I don't known nail glue, so I stuck these into my top coat while it was still a little wet. I also added another coat of TC on top of the stud to seal it in.

****************************
Because I thought the whole stud on black looked really neat, I recreated a similar look a few days later.

Here I used Cult Nails Nevermore (clearly my favourite black nail polish & a must-have in my opinion!) and OPI Metallic 4 Life on my pinkie. I stamped with DRK-A XL plate and Essie No Place Like Chrome. This time I kept all triangles oriented in the same direction, and I liked it a lot more!

Another awesome thing about these studs is that I cleaned them up with a bit of acetone and re-used them again! I would also recommend getting nail glue, so you can wear these for a bit longer than a night. The honestly look so sharp over black.

My only complaint is the size, I found these to be a little large and flat for my curved nails. As a result the 2 corners that were at the base of the triangle were always sticking out. It's not the products fault, but mine for ordering a larger size than I needed. If you check out the selection of studs on the KKcenterHK site, you will be able to find something to fit your nail shape (right now I am eyeing up the 3mm star shaped studs... cool!). Oh and if you decide to grab anything feel free to use nailcall to get 10% off.

That's all from me today, thanks for stopping by!

Have a great day,

Karen XOXO
