Free Handed Nail Art on M.O. Blooboo

Hi guys!

I'll be a bit light on the chit chat today, its already 11 on Sunday & I wanted to be in bed by this time! After a busy weekend (another birthday party, hockey, house hold duties, being pregnant, ect) I'm straight up exhausted!

Todays nail art is a free handed tribal, geometric thing I tried after pinning a lot of similar looks on Pinterest.

To create the look I used Models Own Blooboo and a white stripping polish. I also used a small dotting tool here and there.

Blooboo is a super gorgeous light blue with a hint of green polish. There's some micro shimmer in there too, but its impossible to see in my pictures. It's a thick polish and needed to be thinned after a few uses. I tried it for stamping & I'm happy to report it works pretty well!

I purchased Models Own Blooboo during the spring from Harlow & Co, used it about 2-3 times, loved the colour, but decided the nail art I did with it wasn't blog worthy and cleared the pics. I am surprised this is Blooboos first appearance on Nail Call.

and... YAWN! Ok I'll stop talking now, but only because I'm feeling rather sleepy.

Have a great day everyone!

No Nails,But Lots of Pictures & Talking :)

Hi Girls!

Its back to reality for me, I've been home from my vacation for a full week today. I've jumped right back into the swing of things with family, going back to work, night time homework, doctor appointments, my sons birthday party... oh and a flooded basement.

So I haven't done my nails at all (why do I feel like I am being punished for going on vacation!?!?).

Here are some pictures I posted on twitter last week:

Arm Candy #1:
Both looks inspired by the lovely Marta Warmuz

Arm Candy #2:
All bracelets recently purchased from Suzy Sheir

My scarf collection. I love scarfs, and can usually find them pretty cheap all over the place. I just got a little storage bin for them from Wal-Mart for $5 on clearance. There are 18 in here, and some of these scarfs have a lot of meaning to me:

My smart baby, we studied every night to earn that 5/5:

Me then & now, reminiscent of the definition: Party Night pre-kids, and post kids:

Here we are already to go to Matthews 6th Birthday Party:

I would have loved to post pictures of the actual birthday party, the kids were so cute. I'm just not sure how the childrens parents would feel about that.

Thats all for today! Sorry for the lack of nails and assorted randomness.

If you're on Twitter, feel free to say hello & chat!

Have a great week!

Karen.

Blue & White Skittlette (& Stamping Slip-up!)

Hello Ladies!!

This is my last scheduled post. I've been back for a few days now, and things are slowing getting back to normal.

Todays mani was *thisclose* to not making it to my blog thanks to my over-eagerness to stamp. If you notice my middle finger, I wrinkled the polish with the stamper while it was dry on top but still wet underneath:
Nice eh?!

I used the following:
Essence Date In The Moonlight
Zoya  Jacqueline
OPI Radiance
BM04
Konad Special Black Stamping Polish
How embarrassing!!!!
Darn it! I loved the combination, so of course I had to go smudge it.

Not all was lost! or I should say it could have been A LOT worse:

Immediately after the stamping disaster I was able to pat the smudged polish back down, and added 2 extra coats of top coat... it almost worked! The upper left hand side had been devoid of any polish, now it looks only a little wrinkled... I'll take it!

Here's one more picture!

Despite my big slip up, I enjoyed this mani a lot. Blue & white together really speak to me. I will pull this colour scheme out again soon!

Thanks for reading & please don't make TOO MUCH fun of my little stamping snafu ;)

I should have my real time blog post back up and running on Monday Sept  23.

Have a great weekend!

The Unplanned Christmas Mani

Hi Girls

This is a scheduled post, I'm back from vacation now, but had planned far enough ahead to give my-self a few days to get caught up on everything at home/family and work before worrying about posting on my blog.

My post for today is another new to me style. The half moons. I thought red and silver would have a really elegant and classy look (and I swear it looked good in my head) instead in real life it's pure Mrs.Claus:

See what I mean!?!?!

I used the following shades:
OPI Radiance
Essie Limited Addiction

Not my favourite look, but I know it can be so much better (done by some one else! lol). There are some amazing half-moon manis on the web.

Thanks for reading!!

Have a great day!

Water Coloured Poppies

Hi Ladies,

This is yet ANOTHER scheduled post, I am flying back today and should be back before noon. I know I've had a great visit, but at this point I'll be ready to see Jon and my kids again. :)

Todays mani, is a still new-to-me technique, I've tried water colour once before HERE, yet I wanted to do more. Here is my first attempt at water colour flowers:
I used the following shades:
Zoya Jacqueline
Essie Mojito Madness mixed with acetone
Essie Limited Addiction mixed with acetone

To get the water colour effect I put a small drop of Essie Mojito Madness nail polish on a piece of plastic, dipped my paint brush (a super cheap one I purchased at Wal-Mart) in acetone and mixed them together. That gave the polish a watery consistency and I painted the stems with it.

Following the stems I moved on to the poppies. This time I used my dotting tool and made a plain 5 petal flower shape. With my paint brush dipped in acetone again, put it on the fresh dot and let the acetone flow, thus spreading the polish. I learnt at this point its best to apply the acetone on wet polish, it spreads better and give a more water colour look to the petal.

Have you tried the water colour technique?

Thanks for reading :) talk to you all soon!

Colores De Carol: Wet Paint!

Hi Girls!

This is another scheduled post while I'm away in Calgary Alberta with my sister visiting our extended family that lives there. We won't be back until the 16th.

Today I have another beauty I picked up in a nail polish swap. Colores De Carol Wet Paint:

Here is Wet Paint layered over Misa Office Polish-tics, the most beautiful slate grey I own. This Misa is probably one of my top 5 polishes of all time! (well...lets be honest for a second, I would never be able to narrow it down to 20 top polishes... let alone 5), but IF I wanted too could this shade would be up there for sure.

Wet Paint is a glitter topper, predominately white, pink and blue squares. There are various sized of black hexes and a light mix of small coloured glitter thrown in. Its a really fun glitter mix!

The base to be really thick, but I found favourable results by picking out the large glitter using a dotting tool.

Thanks for stopping by!

Karen.

Whats With The Cattitude? with Roses.

Hi Guys!

I have another scheduled post for you. I'm still in Calgary with my sister visiting our family out there.

Today I have my review of Blue Rose Water Decals provided from KKCenterHK for my opinion/review:

I used the following:
OPI Whats With the Cattitude
Blue Rose Water Decals ($2.82 US)

I've kept it no secret that I love water decals. You can get a high level of precision that just can't be achieved with stamping or free hand painting. And of course all the fine details, colours, and images they come in.

Not to mention favourite part of using water decals is how fast you can apply them. You just paint your nails, soak the decal, apply, and topcoat the whole nail. Its one extra step to your regular manicure and makes a big impact.

Feel free to use the code nailcall for 10% off anything at KKCenterHK.

Purple & Taupe Studded Colour Block

Hello & happy Monday,

If you follow me on Twitter at all, you may have heard that I`m getting ready to head out to Calgary Alberta for a vacation with my sister to visit my family out there. I`m flying out today & won`t be back in Ontario until next Monday. I`ll have posts scheduled until then. While I`m away I won`t be replying to comments, but I`ll still see them! Of course I`ll reply when I get back :)

Todays mani is another rave review for the 2mm Studs I got from Born Pretty:
I used:
Essie Ladylike
Zoya Petra (seen together HERE)
2mm Studs from Born Pretty (seen HERE)

I said it before in my last post, but its worth saying again. I was really impressed with how flat these studs were on my nail. They are raised, but no free edge was sticking out to get caught on anything. I also appreciate that 4 of them can fit nicely on my pinkie nail.

Feel free to use my code: ECJ61 for 10% off your order. Don't forget Born Pretty offers free shipping with no minimum.

That's all from me today. See you all in a week! :)

Nautical Studs: A Born Pretty Review

Hello & good day!

I hope the first week back to school was fun and somewhat painless! I bet a lot of people are TGIF-ing right now!

Today I have my first review for Born Pretty. I chose to review the 2mm square studs, which have been extremely popular lately, and I've been lusting after a few forever!

I decided to go with a nautical themed look:
I used the following:
OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls
Maybelline Navy Narcissist
Konad M57
2mm Square Studs from Born Pretty
Bundle Monster BM 08

The 2mm size was small enough to lay flat on my nails, yet large enough to stand out and bring some "edge" to my manicure. They didn't get caught on things like larger studs I`ve tried.

You can find the 2mm Square Studs HERE . Don`t forget you can get 10% off your order with the code: ECJ61

I hope you all had a fulfilling week back to whatever you went back to, and now get to enjoy the weekend before school pressure weighs you down.

Have a great weekend!

Back To School Mani

Hello!

As many of you know, yesterday was the first day back to school, and I created a back-to-school mani to celebrate:

I used:
Zoya Petra
Essie Ladylike
Maybelline Amethyst Ablaze
Konad M57 (both images)

Something about both Petra & Ladylike seemed like very scholarly shades to me. I knew I had to do something back to school with Ladylike as soon as I saw it next to Perta. They look like they could be sisters... the scholarly sisters...

My oldest son, Matthew, was back to school starting grade 1. I can't get over how grown up he is! He had his lunch packed, clothing picked out and bag ready to go the night before. Lets hope these good habits continue in the up-coming months ahead.

That's all from me today. Good Luck everyone with your first week back!

Catrice In The Bronx

Hey everyone,

Today I'm posting a little bonus mani that I wore to a small get together BBQ/playdate I had with 2 of my girlfriends their adorable little men. They each have a son really close to my sons Isaac age (2-ish years old). It was so much fun!

I wore Catrice In The Bronx:

I picked this shade up in a recent swap. I'm so glad I did, its the burnt/tarnished gold coloured, metallic, glass fleck, nail polish I never knew I needed.

Here's one last pic taken in the ambient lighting of my kitchen, I found that In The Bronx showed her true beauty in indirect lighting (but sadly still remained somewhat elusive to my camera).

This was just a quickie manicure, but I think some light nail art in black would really bring out the majesty of In The Bronx. Soon I hope! :)

Thanks for reading!

Have a great week!

Hello & Happy Labour Day!!

My Labour Day nails:

I used the following:
