Sally Hansen Silver Sweep VS Essie No Place Like Chrome

Hello!

Today I'd like to share a quick comparison between Essie No Place Like Chrome and Sally Hansen Silver Sweep. There was some discussion in the Facebook group Adventures In Stamping about how the 2 shades measure up to each other. The formula of Silver Sweep has been changed (You can see my comp pic of old vs new HERE), people would like to find a decent stamping equivalent to the original formula Silver Sweep:

Bottles of Essie No Place Like Chrome and Sally Hansen Silver Sweep
Essie No Place Like Chrome vs Sally Hansen Silver Sweep

Below I stamped with both shades on my index and middle finger using Konad M57. I noticed no difference in the print transfer, however when adding top coat, Essie's image pulled a little bit.

I also did a quick swatch of Essie and SH on my ring and pinky fingers. You see 2 coats on each. It might be hard to tell in the pictures, but the Essie is WAY more chrome then the SH.

All nails are topped with Seche Vite.

Are they dupes? No not exactly, but its not worth owning both. I think you should buy Silver Sweep (old formulation) while you can because of cost difference. In Canada Sally Hansen cost $4-$6, and Essie $9-$12 depending on where you buy it.

I hope this helps some of you who wanted comparisons!

Have a great day!

Sunday Stamping: Combining Another Technique

Hello lovelies!

Today is another Adventures In Stamping  Sunday Challenge. The theme is stamping combined with another technique. For this, I decided on the watercolour technique, which uses nail polish mixed with acetone & a thin brush to create a watercolour effect. Of course, after I stamped over it ;)

I used the following:
Finger Paints Paper Mache
OPI Kiss Me On The Tulips
OPI I'm Feeling Sashy
OPI Fly
China Glaze Fairy Dust
BM-313
Cult Nails Nevermore

Thank you for reading, enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

#LLLucky: Chanel Taboo

Good day friends!

Time for another Lacquer Legion post! This months theme is Lucky. You can search #lllucky over all social media sites to see what others have created & shared!

This month I decided to share Chanel Taboo:

I was given Taboo from Jon at Christmas. He had to drive to 2 different malls to find this, and the fact that he even knew I wanted this specific shade is short of miraculous (well, I did ask for it.. but he somehow retained that information lol).  Needless to say I feel lucky to own this polish!

Chanel Taboo is SOO pretty guys! Its a blue-purple base, packed with red shimmer, and a healthy sprinkle of super-super-super fine blue glitter. The blue seems to draw the light like nothing else. It's a shape-shifter-shade as well, sometimes more red than blue and vice-versa. I also asked Jon to guess what nail polish I had on from a distance of about 3m and he guessed black (wtf wrong wit you!?!) So it may appear black at a distance to some.

I'll let the pictures do the rest of that talking:

Chanel Taboo with always hold a special spot in my heart and Helmer lol. It's an exquisite shade with a cute story behind how I got it.  I feel it was the best choice for the Lucky theme of this months Lacquer Legion.

If you search #LLLucky over Facebook, Twitter, Instagram you can check out what others have created for this months theme.

You can find me on the following:
Facebook (I'm brand new!!)

Thank you for stopping by! Have a great Friday night everyone <3

Houndstooth & Lips!

Hi Girls!

The manicure I'm showing today, is one I actually created before I had Jakob. I built up a small stockpile of back-up manis before I delivered. Although I've used most of them by now, I still had this little number sitting the the folder:

I used the following:
Finger Paints Paper Mache
Bundle Monster BM-322 (houndtooth)
Bundle Monster BM-303 (Lips)
Cult Nails Nevermore (stamping polish)
KleanColor Metallic Red (Stamping)

I love all things houndstooth-y and this large pattern stamp is no exception.

When I first tried the lips stamps, I was surprised to see the smooch was almost  full-nail-stamp sized. I wish it was just a bit smaller. Here's my review for the Bundle Monster 2012 set.

I haz a sad over all the streaks :(

Thanks for reading!

Have a great weekend everyone!

#maniswap With Simply Stylish Nails

Hello Darlings!

Today I'm doing a Mani Swap with my cousin Genevieve, who is the talented nail artist that writes the blog Simply Stylish Nails. I first saw the mani swap hastag on Instagram and knew right away I wanted to to invite Gen to join me, I loved the idea and am so happy she's joining me on this swap. The idea is we each pick a mani form the others blog, re-create it & share it over social media, fun right!? :) We also decided to keep a little side of mystery to the swap, so the manicures we picked are a total surprise until we share our posts!

My selection was 1 of 2 looks I had been eyeing for a while. Here's the mani I decided to re-create, TRIANGLES!!!:
     nailcall                               simplystylishnails
For my interpretation of Genevieve's crazy stylish manicure I used the following:
Finger Paints Paper Mache
China Glaze For Audrey
OPI Pink Friday
Cult Nails Nevermore
Striping Tape (Provided for review from Born Pretty)

Click for details on Gen's mani: Simply Stylish Nails

I used striping tape to make the triangles, and followed the pictorial in Gen's post to help with the placement. I struggled so hard with the tape! Its super thin, hard to hold, and the adhesive kept getting stuck to the backing of the layer beneath it. I'd like to think my persistence paid off in the end :)

We'll be posting our swapped looks on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using: #maniswap please come and  check it out!

You can find & follow Simply Stylish Nails in all these places:

You can find me (nailcall) in all the same places:

Have you ever done a #maniswap?

I have a rare (but soon-to-be-not-so-rare) Sunday post. I joined the Adventures In Stamping Facebook group, and every week there is a theme that you post and share on Sundays. Its been going on for a long time, and I always enjoy what the other participants put out. Well... I finally got Facebook, and you bet that Adventures In Stamping was the first group I joined!

I did a gradient with stamping on top & I used the following:
China Glaze Re-Fresh mint (base)
Zoya Josie (mid-gradient)
China Glaze Holly-Day (top-gradient)

Floral Purple Gradient

Hi guys!

This winter has been long in my neck of the woods... Old man winter started early and is dragging out his charge to the bitter end. Winter just got a whole lot longer thanks to a huge blizzard we had yesterday & a cold weather warning for Southern Ontario. I'm really starting to feel the winter blues/cabin fever/anger at the weather man eating at me. At least I have nail polish!

Today I have a purple gradient with floral water decals from KKCenterHK:

To create the above manicure I used:
Finger Paints Paper Mache
China Glaze Light As Air
OPI Planks A Lot
Purple Flower Decal from KKCenterHK (Provided for review)

I have used decals from KKCenterHK a number of times in the past and have always been impressed with their quality. These decals are not transparent and can be used on top of any colour of nail polish. Top coat is needed to seal in the decal. You can used code nailcall for 10% off your order at KKCenterHK.

*Sigh* is it spring yet?

KKCenterHK Review: 7 Piece Brush Set

Happy Monday Girls!

I hope you all had a great weekend! I did a lot of crafting & painting with my boys  this weekend and it was first-rate fun! Now that its March Break for my oldest, I can see my self running out to get more crafting supplies for them... pipe cleaners and popsicle sticks here I come!

Over the weekend I also had the opportunity to review the 7 Piece Brush Set from KKCenterHK:

To create the above look I used:
Finger Paints Paper Mache (Base & Stamping polish)
Sally Hansen Dive In
NOPI OH That's Just Grape
China Glaze Fairy Dust
Fan Brush from 7 Piece Set (Provided for review from KKCenterHK)
DRK Bx2 (plate)

The brush set comes 6 different brushes & one small dotting tool for nail art. I haven't used all of them yet, with exception to the fan brush, which I used to create the above look.  I had no issues using the fan brush, and the  mani turned out!

You can use code nailcall for and additional 10% off your order at KKCenterHK.

Thank you for reading, I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Black with Neon Studded Half Moon

Hi ladies!

Happy Friday! Today my oldest son has a PD day and will be staying home today and all of next week for March Break. I'm looking forward to all the Lego creations we'll be making! As I was telling one of my girl friends I apparently missed my calling as a spacecraft engineer for NASA ;)

I'm happy to be sharing another review for Born Pretty with you guys today. I am reviewing their Neon Studs. I've been seeing these all over the blogosphere, and am in LOVE with them. My first design below is just a simple example of the studs awesome nail art potential:

Is it just me, or do they look like little owls?
To created this manicure I used the following:
Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Lick-O-Rich
Square 2mm studs from Born Pretty (Provided for review, you can read my it HERE)

To use these studs, you pick them up with a dotting tool/ toothpick and place on wet or tacky nail polish. Add top coat to help the studs last longer. I forwent top coat for this manicure because I used a textured shade, however, I would recommend using these over smooth polish.
You can find the studs HERE on Born Pretty's web site, feel free to use code ECJ61 for 10% off your order.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

White with Blue Tips

Hello beautiful ladies!

I'm writing this post so late because instead of blogging, I decided to waste time looking up stuff on Pinterest. Mainly memes of Loki, (lol) but also icing recipes for decorating cup cakes. Not to mention nail art. Pinterest is soo addicting like that, you can go from one thing to another without skipping a beat.

Today I have a twist on a classic french tip manicure as well as a review for Born Pretty's striping tape:

I used the following:
Finger Paints Paper Mache (base)
China Glaze Electric Beat
Silver Striping tape from Born Pretty (Provided for review)

I loved this manicure, and felt that adding the striping tape really elevated the look. It was super easy to do, and the high shine accents elevated this look. You can find the striping tape HERE.

I found the striping tape to be a good quality product, and it has many uses in nail art. I've also used it in a tape mani that I'll be posting next week. You can use code ECJ61 to get 10% your order from Born Pretty.

Now for some shameless self promotion!
I recently created a Instagram account if you'd like to check it out, my user name is @Klenz85. It's another app that I'm quickly becoming addicted too. You can expected to see nails (of course!), baking, and my kids! Give me a shout if you have a IG account, I'd love to check it out!

I also created  Facebook account and a page for Nail Call. This was a big step for me! I've always been "fight the power" when it came to Facebook, but one day Jonathon's sister convinced me make an account & helped me set one up on the spot. If you know any good nail groups to join let me know! I am so new at Facebook it's embarrassing :) I'd love it if you'd stop by and like my page if you truly like it :)

You can also find me on Twitter (which I love so very much!)
